Það eru margar spennandi breytingar að gerast hjá Líffræðifélaginu, eins og allir sem hafa skráð sig á ráðstefnuna hafa vafalaust séð. Til að styrkja uppbyggingu og þjónustugetu félagsins erum við nú að skilgreina virka aðila félagsins þá sem borga 1500 kr. á ári í félagskjöld. Það verður rukkað fyrir þessi gjöld á tveggja ára fresti (sem partur af ráðstefnu skráninguni). Aðal ástæður fyrir þessa breytingu eru helst tvær: það er hægt að tryggja að ráðstefnan geti lifað af eitt eða tvö hallæri þegar okkar venjulegu bakhjarlar eru ekki til staðar (t.d. vegna heimsfaraldar), og svo að félagið geti byrjað að styðja almennt betur við íslenska líffræðisamfélagið með tíðari atburðum og til lengdar með fjárhags styrkjum og nemenda verðlaunum. Við hlökkum til spennandi ráðstefnu með ykkur í ár, og nýrra tækifæra sem stækkandi samfélag líffræðinga og áhugamanna lífvísinda á Íslandi!

There are many exciting changes happening within the Icelandic Biological Society, as any one who has already registered for the upcoming conference has surely seen. In order to support a growing infrastructure and support capacity of the society we are now designating active members as those who contribute a yearly due of 1500 kr. These dues will be collected once every two years (as part of the conference registration). There are two primary reasons for this change: to ensure that the conference can survive one or two bad seasons when all our normal financial support dries up (e.g. due to a pandemic), and so that the society can begin to better support the local biological community with more frequent events and, eventually, with financial grants and student awards. We are looking forward to an exciting conference with you all this year, and to all the new opportunities as a growing community of biologists and people interested in life science in Iceland!
