The main function of the Icelandic Biological Society is to organize a conference on biological research in Iceland every two years. The last conference was held in 2021, see programme and other info here. The next conference will take place in autumn 2023.
The Society was founded in Reykjavik in 1979. It’s purpose, as stated in the Society’s charter, is to “promote biology, facilitate contact and discussion among members, as well as among members and foreign individuals with similar interests“.

Membership
The Society is open to anyone working – or simply interested – in biology and related disciplines. As of autumn 2023 a new membership system was introduced, with an annual fee for active members. The membership fee is currently 1500kr ISK per annum, collected for a 2 year period at a time.
Why become a member? Active members get special deal on IceBio conference tickets, free admission to the annual Social Autumn event, can attend the annual general meeting and vote and take part in discussions there.
