Science communication remains an undervalued and underfunded aspect of research, often making it difficult for scientists, especially early career researchers balancing many responsibilities, to engage the public alongside their academic duties. Yet, communicating science is essential: as researchers, we have a responsibility to share our work and its relevance with society. To address this challenge, we founded ICE Fish Research in May 2024. Our mission is to make fish research in Iceland visible and accessible while providing researchers with a platform to share their science with minimal additional effort. Through social media and blog posts, we showcase the daily work of scientists, offering the public an authentic glimpse into research life and the natural world that surrounds them. By highlighting the people behind the science, we aim to promote diversity, foster representation, and inspire children and young adults to see themselves in scientific careers. Looking ahead, we will expand our outreach with the launch of our podcast, Fiskaspjall, where Icelandic researchers answer “all our fishy questions.” With these initiatives, ICE Fish Research seeks not only to connect research with the public but also to encourage scientists to celebrate and share the remarkable work being done across Iceland.
