ABSTRACT POSTER The aim of this project was to create tools to select robust fish with better innate immunity for breeding stock and may fight in a more efficiently way against pathogen infections. Thereby, we are creating an alternative to antibiotics or vaccine use, which sometimes can cease to perform as they should, allowing the pathogen infect. The project was divided into two main stages. The first stage was to study basal expression of antimicrobial peptides (AMP) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) of different Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) families and select the most robust fish which may have better innate immunity and should fight better against pathogen infections. The second stage was to connect phenotype with genotype by initiating a search for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers, performing ddRAD sequencing, in order to use them as selection markers for fish high-tolerance against pathogen infections.
