University of Iceland post-doc grants 2015

The University of Iceland advertises 15 post-doc grants intended for researchers who have received their Ph.D. within the last five years. A committee appointed by the University rector, with members from all five schools at the University, will evaluate and rank the applications. At least two grants will be awarded to each of the five schools at the University of Iceland. The schools are School of Social Science, School of Health Science, School of Humanities, School of Education and School of Engineering and Natural Sciences. See below potential areas in the School of Humanities.

Applications will be evaluated with the main emphasis on the research plan and the research activity of applicants. The time elapsed since the doctorate degree was obtained will be taken into consideration in the evaluation. Selection of applicants will furthermore be based on each school’s need for new post-doc positions. A letter of support from a school/faculty/institute at the University of Iceland should be enclosed, confirming access to necessary facilities and equipment for the applicant’s research. Applicants must also enclose a copy of their Ph.D. diploma or a confirmation from their university that they will graduate within the next four months, or before 1 September 2015. The application deadline is 13 April 2015. Successful applicants should be able to start their post-doc term no later than 1 November 2015.

The hiring process is in accordance with Regulation no. 569/2009, as well as other laws and regulations that apply. Appointments will be temporary, for a maximum period of three years.

Salary will be in accordance with the wage agreement between the Minister of Finance and the relevant trade union.

Among the various fields of study which could be considered in the School of Humanities, the School emphasises the following two:
1. A postdoctoral position in religious studies, preferably with an emphasis on Hinduism and Buddhism. This is a research position, but it also involves certain teaching requirements.
2. A postdoctoral position in the areas of translation, translation studies and/or sociolinguistics. This is a position within the Faculty of Foreign Languages, but it is also connected with the establishment and development of an international language centre at the University of Iceland, under the auspices of UNESCO.
